In the evening:
After a long day of fun and activities, I’ll teach a gentle and restorative hatha class with particular focus on gentle stretches and releasing tension from the body. This yoga retreat will take place at Danena Sicily, a 19th century farmhouse situated in the luscious natural landscape of southeastern Sicily surrounded by the breathtaking Mediterranean Sea. La Masseria offers beautifully decorated double rooms, a fresh water outdoor pool, three patios where to eat or simply relax, and a stunning sunset terrace.
The Masseria (Italian for ‘farm’) can accommodate up to 18 people very comfortably. It has 4 apartments and 10 bedrooms, some of which are en-suite and some with shared bathrooms. All the rooms are elegantly decorated with local vintage furniture. We can also offer you a private suite and beautifully decorated apartment completely detached from the main house for greater privacy. This apartment has its own patio, kitchen and bathroom. If you are interested in staying here then it can be booked especially for you on on request.
During the hot summer months in Sicily, the thick walls of the Masseria keep the air fresh and comfortable. This is particularly notable in the cool, calm yoga room with its lofty ceilings and small windows. The yoga room is fully equipped with all the props necessary to support your practice and for a relaxing restorative class. The house is surrounded by vast gardens where you can find the occasional hammock to indulge in an afternoon nap in.
Furthermore, the Masseria offers a large fresh water infinity pool surrounded by parasols and loungers. There are also 3 patios where you can enjoy your meals and socialise and a sunset terrace overlooking the property and the surroundings.
The house is just ten minutes south from the unspoilt World Heritage town of Noto – one of Italy’s most beautiful historic centres. A ten minutes drive east is the Nature Reserve of Vendicari, a heaven of wildlife and some of the island’s most beautiful and deserted golden-sand beaches.
Most of the meals are vegetarian and will be prepared by an in-house chef who will be cooking traditional Sicilian food along with international cuisine. However, every so often the menu will include fish dishes which form a big part of the traditional diet in Sicily. We will be happy to accommodate any special dietary requests you may have. All meals are prepared with fresh and local produce to ensure the highest quality.
Between your classes, you will be free to take part in exciting activities available in the area.
Hiking: there are many short walks around the farm.
Sightseeing and day-trips: explore and enjoy Noto. A well known village for its fine structures of the early eighteenth century. Many of them are thought to be among the finest cases of Sicilian baroque style including numerous religious structures and a few royal residences.
Beach: San Lorenzo beach is only fifteen minutes away from the house. It is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Sicily.
Wine tasting: if you like a good wine, you cannot miss the opportunity to visit the local vineyards.
The closest airport is Catania Fontanarossa and the top operators are British Airways (direct flight) and Alitalia via Milan or Rome. We kindly suggest you to have a look to Skyscanner for ticket prices.
Even though we provide a scheduled transfer to the venue, it is worth it to hire a car for you to be able to explore the stunning east coast of the island. Renting a car in Sicily is very cheap and the venue is easy to access.
